[ 28 ] The date on which ratification or accession took effect is indicated for each state.

[ 29 ] The EPC is also applicable to the overseas territories.

[ 30 ] The EPC does not apply to Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

[ 31 ] Any designation of this state is treated in the same way as a joint designation of Switzerland and Liechtenstein (Art. 142(1) EPC in conjunction with Art. 2 of the Patent Treaty between Switzerland and Liechtenstein, see OJ EPO 1980, 407).

[ 32 ] The EPC is applicable to the territory of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Europe, and as of 4 April 2007 also to Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the Dutch Caribbean (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba).

[ 42 ] In accordance with Article 89 of the Agreement, this Agreement enters into force on 1 January 2014 or on the first day of the fourth month after the deposit of the thirteenth instrument of ratification or accession in accordance with Article 84, including the three member states in which the highest number of European patents had effect in the year preceding the year in which the signature of the Agreement takes place or on the first day of the fourth month after the date of entry into force of the amendments to Regulation (EU) No. 1215/2012 concerning its relationship with this Agreement, whichever is the latest.
EU Regulations No. 1257/2012 and No. 1260/2012 on unitary patent protection will apply from the date of entry into force of the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court.
